Green Packet Ties Up with China Mobile

PETALING JAYA: GREEN PACKET BHD’s unit, Green Packet (S) Pte Ltd, has entered into a definitive agreement with China Mobile Ltd’s unit, China Mobile Group Device Co Ltd, to jointly promote, sell and distribute each other’s products and services.

“This agreement is meaningful to Green Packet’s business as we are partnering with the device arm of the most highly valued and largest mobile network operator in the world with over 900 million subscribers,” group managing director and CEO of Green Packet, Puan Chan Cheong, said in a statement.

“China Mobile’s global ambition is also going strong, with its presence in 22 markets via China Mobile International Ltd to offer a range of telecommunications products, solutions and services,” Puan added.

The signing of the agreement follows an earlier memorandum of understanding announced on Nov 1 to explore and develop collaborative opportunities.

The agreement is valid for a duration of one year and will be automatically renewed for another year until and unless it is terminated in accordance with the terms set out in the agreement, it said in the Bursa Malaysia circular.

It noted that China Mobile leads in 5G deployment in China with more than 10 million pre-registered users.

“This first mover experience and sizeable test-bed will enable China Mobile to contribute valuable experience and robustly tested solutions to global telecoms and countries transitioning to 5G,” it added.

Green Packet said in the statement that it would soon introduce a new series of innovative 5G LTE products in the coming months.

Green Packet designs, develops and distributes customer premise equipment (CPE) that it sells to more than 70 countries.

“With this collaboration agreement, China Mobile will have a wider range of CPEs and be able to tap into Green Packet’s broad and unrestricted market access. It opens up huge business opportunities for Green Packet to expand its regional markets by having its CPEs sold in China, the largest country in Asia through China Mobile,” the company said.

It also said that this collaboration agreement would enable Green Packet and China Mobile to leverage on each other’s expertise, resources and technological capabilities to develop innovations in digital services.

According to Puan, the group hopes to play a key role in the country’s aggressive push for digital transformation.

Puan said Malaysia has signaled a firm commitment to adopt new technologies and Green Packet looks forward to working closely with China Mobile to help the country move ahead with confidence.

It said that a key driver would be 5G, which would unlock the full potential of frontier technologies.

“We will continue to explore opportunities to build a thriving technology ecosystem in Malaysia for Industry 4.0, while incorporating exciting features of future living like cashless, smart transportation and mobility, smart retail, virtual reality and robotics,” Puan said.
