Seamless Mobility

What is Mobile IP
Mobile IP is intended to enable nodes to move from one IP subnet to another. It is just as suitable for mobility across homogeneous media as it is for mobility across heterogeneous media. That is, Mobile IP facilitates node movement from one Ethernet segment to another as well as it accommodates node movement from an Ethernet segment to a wireless LAN, as long as the mobile node's IP address remains the same after such a movement.

Why Mobile IP
Wireless LAN, married to the GPRS/CDMA2000 infrastructure can offer much more than what 3G has promised. By incorporating Green Packet's SONaccess™ technology into the WLAN, integrated with GPRS/CDMA2000 services, subscribers are able to roam across GPRS/CDMA2000 and WLAN networks seamlessly. The mobile user, with his SONaccess™ enabled device, is free to roam through these integrated hybrid networks and even into WLAN networks of participating service providers, without dropping his/her online Internet application. Being truly mobile, SONaccess™ is agnostic to the access technologies used, enabling seamless handover and roaming across networks using different IP access technologies such as GPRS/CDM2000, 3G or WLAN, as long as the client device supports the wireless interface. Operators and service providers with a hybrid network can offer all the services a 3G network can offer.

The Advantages of Deploying Green Packet SONaccess Foreign Agent In Wireless Hotspots
Green Packet SONaccess seamless roaming solutions can still work in the absence of a SONaccess Foreign Agent (FA), i.e., SONaccess seamless roaming solutions support theoption of using a Care Of Address (COA) obtained via either DHCP or PPP. This feature is useful in a WAN environment whereby an FA is too difficult to be deployed. The current trend is that both 2.5G and 3G wireless WAN technologies are adopting the Mobile IP to manage the mobility by deploying FAs at GGSNs or PDSNs.aa
