Kuala Lumpur, 19 January 2010 – Greenpacket, a leading developer of next generation mobile broadband and networking solutions, has extended its award winning Intouch Connection Manager application to three of the world’s most popular mobile platforms - Android, Symbian and Windows Mobile. Greenpacket’s Intouch Connection Manager was named ‘2010 4G Wireless Evolution Product of the Year’.

With Greenpacket’s ICM for Mobile (Intouch Connection Manager for Mobile) installed into mobile devices, users can enjoy seamless connectivity while on-the-go with automatic switching to the best available access networks (3G, 3.5G, WiFi and WiMAX). Users also get an uninterrupted experience on video, voice, web-browsing and downloading on their mobile phone. This translates to YouTube anywhere, audio streaming while commuting, instant updates from friends on social networks, and even real time feedback and recommendations when making new purchases.

Kelvin Lee, Senior General Manager of Greenpacket said, “ICM for Mobile is the gateway to the ‘always connected’ and completely fuss-free mobility experience that mobile users crave. Faster mobile broadband speeds, the availability of powerful mobile handsets and the proliferation of internet-based applications have changed the way consumers access the internet.

“For the operator, ICM for Mobile delivers a host of clever benefits. It gives operators full control of their access networks via traffic management and monitoring. They can do away with the hassle as they only need to manage a single cross-compatible mobile platform. This in turn, eases customer support and the rolling out of new value-added services,” added Lee.

The two critical components of the ICM for Mobile are an inbuilt Connection Profile Manager and a Mobile IP Driver. The Connection Profile Manager works with native mobile connection utilities to help operators control how subscribers connect to multiple networks (cellular and wireless LAN) with just a single click. As ICM for Mobile is integrated with Google Maps and A-GPS in mobile phones, users can tag their favorite connection profiles based on location to ensure that they are always connected to the best choice of network wherever they go. Whereas the Mobile IP component ensures that IP-based mobile applications such as video streaming, voice and downloads remain uninterrupted as the connection switches across different access networks (3G, 3.5G, WiFi and WiMAX). ICM for Mobile can also integrate with LTE mobile devices as soon as they are available.

ICM for Mobile’s functionalities can be further expanded. Operators can add the Intouch Reporting Server to collect data and device information from mobile devices for market research, forecasts, network planning and troubleshooting. With the addition of Intouch Update Server, they can push over-the-air updates to mobile devices from a centralized location.

ICM for Mobile, which has been successfully trialed by some of Asia’s leading operators, has according to Lee, drawn strong interests with deals in the pipeline. He said, “Operators realize the immediate need to optimize their access networks to meet rising mobile data demand mostly driven by mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. We’re very excited about the promising prospect of ICM for Mobile which presents a viable and cost effective solution.”

According to Cisco VNI Global Mobile Data Traffic Forecast, mobile data traffic will see year-on-year growth double from 2009 to 2014 to reach 3.6 exabytes per month. By 2014, more than 25% of mobile data traffic will be from smartphones and mobile phones which is an 80-fold increase. Notebooks, netbooks and tablets will remain the top data-hungry devices, making up for 70% of mobile data traffic.
