KAY TAN SUCEEDS AS GPB’s CEO
KUALA LUMPUR, 7 October 2014: Green Packet Berhad (“GPB/ Group”) today announced that Tan Kay Yen (“Kay Tan”) has been appointed as GPB’s new Chief Executive Officer, taking over the helm from long time founder, Puan Chan Cheong (“CC Puan”) who is relinquishing his active positions from the Group to lead Packet One Networks (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (“P1”) as its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director.
Kay Tan started his career with the Arab Malaysian Group in the financial sector. He later joined the IBI group of companies, a diverse IT firm in 1996 to hold a range of leadership positions before joining GPB as Director of Corporate Development in 2005. He was promoted to Group Chief Operating Officer in 2006 and doubled as acting Group Chief Financial Officer in 2013.
“Kay has been overseeing the day to day operations for the key business divisions of GPB, namely the Solutions and Communications pillar together with corporate development, strategic planning and finance functions since joining us”, said CC Puan, GPB’s Non-Independent, Non-Executive Director. “His consistent track record and strong capability to deliver strategies will be extremely valuable as GPB continues to grow around the world”, added CC Puan.

Kay Tan graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, with a double major in Finance and Management Information Systems.
Puan Chan Cheong will officially relinquish his active positions in GPB and will sit on the board of the Group as a Non-Independent, Non-Executive Director to provide counsel. He has been appointed officially to lead P1 as its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director effective today.

I would like to thank him and the board for their vote of confidence and will carry GPB to greater success”, said Kay Tan. “I have also conducted an exhaustive search to identify outstanding individuals to further strengthen our leadership team. We will be announcing their appointment soon” added Kay Tan.
The Group is aggressively expanding its business into the LTE space, winning five new LTE device supply contracts, two from Tier-1 operators, namely Globe Telecom of The Philippines and MTN of Nigeria, which have a significant combined subscriber base of 96 million.
Meanwhile, The Group’s Communications business, NGT Networks Pte Ltd, continues to register solid demand with more than RM40 million of quarterly revenue registered on its international voice trunk.
