2007 was a mixed year with achievements and challenges. The year unfolded with Green Packet Berhad (“Green Packet”) bagging the much-awaited WiMAX license through our subsidiary, Packet One Networks (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (“P1”). It was a ground setting year to build our second key business pillar i.e. the converged telecommunication service provider division with implementation of various strategic operational plans that have been charted even before the WiMAX win. At the same time, Green Packet continued to grow organically in our current solution business albeit faced with a temporary slowdown in solution orders from China telcos lately in anticipation of the award of the 3G licenses. However, revenues continue to materialise from other key regions in Southeast Asia and Middle East & North Africa (MENA). To date, the MENA region in which the group has penetrated into early in the year through a dedicated partnership program strategy has successfully built a network of more than 24 partners.

2008 will be an exciting year for Green Packet. We are excited about the WiMAX outlook and potential, and are ready to embark on the journey of bringing broadband ‘personal’. We are confident that P1 will be the FIRST to commercially deploy WiMAX in Malaysia and one of the very few forerunners in Asia. Our objective is to launch WiMAX services by first half of 2008 with the aim to provide network coverage for 25% of the country’s population by end of 2008. Our WiMAX strategy will be anchored upon serving up a Beyond Broadband experience. Aside from delivering mere voice and bandwidth, we aim to provide a customer-centric and converged service experience that spans 3Cs i.e. Connectivity, Communications and Content & services. P1 is poised to be the next generation broadband provider that will enhance and change the way people connect to and see the Internet, the way people live, work, communicate, learn and play.

On our other key business pillar, the solution business, we will continue to focus on research & development to strengthen our foundations through ceaseless innovation and continue to utilize our global network of assets efficiently to forge ahead. Another key area will be to invest in building a clear brand identity on both our solutions and converged telecommunication services that would successfully create a bonding, one that captures the hearts and minds of our stakeholders including our shareholders, investors, customers and communities in which we operate.

To achieve the various set goals, and more importantly to ultimately deliver value to our stakeholders that have place their trust in us, our talented pool of people will work in unison to reinforce our competitiveness and strive to execute with passion and excellence.

There is a saying that there are three groups of people with regards to the future. There are ‘those that make it happen’, ‘those who let it happen’ and finally there are ‘those who wonder what happened’. We belong to that first group of people and will continue to forge ahead as masters of our own destiny. With the right focus, people and strategies, I am confident that we will achieve both our short and long-term business objectives and goals.
