Deployment of SONmetro with local telco Infoasia

KUALA LUMPUR, 14 November 2007 ¨C Green Packet Berhad (¡°Green Packet¡±) has made a major breakthrough into Indonesia by teaming up with local telco operator PT Infoasia Teknologi Global Tbk. (¡°Infoasia¡±)

Infoasia will be deploying Green Packet¡¯s SONmetro in certain residential areas in the capital city of Jakarta for the rollout of mesh wireless broadband services. The target markets are personal home users, small office home office (SOHO), internet cafes, schools, universities, corporates and malls.

¡°Infoasia is going to deploy city wide mesh WiFi network with mobility capability in few major cities in Indonesia. We have been talking to several other solution providers and have chosen Green Packet with their SONMetro solution. We are excited and will have our first pilot project with Green Packet ready before end of this year,¡± said Noviana Halim, the Vice President Director of Infoasia.

¡°Indonesia is the World¡¯s fourth most populous after China, India and USA. With current population of close to 240 million and broadband users only made up 0.9 million in 2007, which is less than 0.4% penetration rate, the prospects are indeed immense,¡± said Kelvin Lee, Green Packet¡¯s Worldwide Solutions Group General Manager.

¡°We are excited to be working with Infoasia, an established telco operator in our first foray into Indonesia. The choice of Infoasia to deploy our proven SONmetro solutions is a vote of confidence and is expected to raise our profile in Indonesia¡± said Kelvin.

In July this year, Green Packet, in partnership with Kalaam Telecom Bahrain BSC (c) (¡°Kalaam Telecom¡±), rolled out its wireless broadband network successfully in Bahrain. Kalaam Telecom¡¯s fixed wireless broadband in partnership with Green Packet as the technology and infrastructure provider is the first operational wireless internet in Bahrain. Deployment has already started in Juffair.

Meanwhile, Green Packet has also released its third quarter financial results. For the nine (9)-month period ended 30 September 2007, Green Packet registered a revenue of RM96.38 million which represented a growth of 72.7% compared to the same corresponding period in 2006. However, pre-tax profit before exceptional gain decreased to RM30.65 million from RM35.63 million in the same corresponding period last year. There was a one-off exceptional gain of RM5.19 million due to gain of dilution in share of net assets of associate company last year. The slight decrease in pre-tax profit was due to the temporary slow down in solution orders from China telcos in anticipation of the award of 3G licenses ahead of China hosting the Olympic Games in August 2008. Nevertheless, the 3G award for the China telcos will be a positive catalyst for Green Packet in the long run because there will be solution requirement for integration of 3G and other existing networks. Lower contribution from its associate companies and the higher initial operating costs incurred for its broadband business have also subdued the growth.

¡°Green Packet has sales emerging from its other key regions in Southeast Asia and Middle East and North Africa which will serve to cushion the temporary hiccup in sales from China. Additionally, the prospects of China telcos receiving 3G licence would outweigh any temporary slow down,¡± said Puan Chan Cheong, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Green Packet.
