MSC-APICTA Award
Kuala Lumpur, October 28, 2004 – Green Packet Berhad, won the MSC-APICTA 2004 Best of Communications Applications Award in a glittering ceremony hosted by the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at the Putrajaya Ballroom, Putrajaya Marriot Hotel.
Green Packet submitted its SONbuddy product, a wireless communication software, which enables Wi-Fi devices to build an instant network with or without any access point or infrastructure for this award. The SONbuddy product, extends a device’s Wi-Fi range, creates a secure network with VPN, enables Internet sharing, cost-saving VoIP calls, file-exchange with peers, instant messaging and multi-player gaming.
Competition for the prestigious award was extremely keen with 5 finalists being chosen for this category before Green Packet was adjudged the winner. The defining edge of SONbuddy was its capability of fulfilling the essential criteria for secure and seamless communications, enabling Green Packet to clinch this top award.
“I’m delighted with the win and am thankful that the Malaysian government organizes these awards to recognize high potential ICT products and boost the implementation and use of ICT in the country,” said Puan Chan Cheong, CEO for Green Packet Berhad. Green Packet Berhad will now represent Malaysia at the international Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) in Hong Kong this December and showcase its product with the best of the best in the Asia Pacific.

The MSC-APICTA awards is intended to be a platform to stimulate creativity, innovation and excellence in ICT in Malaysia, to benchmark Malaysian ICT products and solutions, as well as to recognize outstanding achievements in ICT, of students, technopreneurs, SMEs and organizations with operations in Malaysia. As an MSC-APICTA award winner, Green Packet Berhad is automatically a finalist in the Asia Pacific ICT Awards to be held in Hong Kong this coming December 2004.
