The beginning of Greenpacket is tied to one visionary man, our Founder, Group MD cum CEO, CC Puan. A graduate in Finance and Management Information System, a young CC Puan in year 1999, invested into setting up a technology company with some partners in the Silicon Valley. That was during the prime of the dot.com bubble where funding was plenty and venture capitalists literally line an entire street. A year into business came the dot.com bust and the gloom it brought to the much hyped industry was intensely felt by the Greenpacket team. The then CEO decided to call it quits, and funding dried up in an instant.
Greenpacket was at the verge of resigning to oblivion if not for a very determined CC Puan. CC believed in the technology that the company was developing to meet a future need of ‘anytime, anywhere connectivity’. He was also determined to sustain the employment of his hopeful and talented research and development team, some of whom were living in the United States on working visas.
He took two weeks to verify his belief on the business potential, and once certain, he wrestled circumstances to keep the Company afloat which included trading in his hard-earned personal assets for more funding. CC maintained the small R&D team in the US and moved the operation back to Malaysia, his home country. Not only was the costs of operation reduced substantially, CC refocused Greenpacket’s business and market development on new emerging markets, namely China and countries in South East Asia.
Within five years, Greenpacket was listed on the MESDAQ market of the Malaysian Bourse, and at one time, the market capitalisation value peaked to RM 2.7 billion. Two years later in 2007, Greenpacket transitioned to the Main Board.
To ensure Greenpacket withstands the test of time and is protected from the volatility of the highly competitive ‘solutioning’ business, in year 2006, its Board of Directors and Management Team devised a 5-year business plan and strategy.
Three years into executing the business plan and strategy, we have grown our operations by a few respectable folds. Greenpacket has international footprint with operations in the USA, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, China, Bahrain, and Thailand. We have expanded our technology focus and diversified our product lines from the Personal Handy-phone System, 3G and WiFi space into the relatively niche WiMAX space with a fervour.
And we have built a Converged Communications Services Pillar which comprises world’s leading large-scale 802.16e 2.3GHz WiMAX operator and service provider, Packet One Networks; and via our Alternative Voice Service Provider subsidiary companies, namely Next Telecommunications Sdn Bhd, NGT Networks Pte Ltd, OneVois Communication Co. Ltd. With the strong execution of our business plan and strategy, we plan to build a globally recognised brand name with leadership in the WiMAX business and technology, and ensure high sustained revenue and growth for the Company.
The Greenpacket Group currently employs over 800 Packeteers to ensure continuous and upward progress towards realising our Vision and Mission.
